Golf Etiquette Tips

It's been said that etiquette and manners are the lubricant that makes society flow smoothly and that's very true when you're out on the golf course. Golf is a certainly a wonderful game, but many people take the game too seriously. It's very possible that someone could be offended and even throw a tantrum if proper etiquette isn't followed. Of course manners aren't everything. Sometimes the rules of golf etiquette keep people safe, and safety is an important part of any sport.
You've probably noticed that pro baseball players wear protective headgear as do football players who wear helmets and padding. Safety in sports is important, and the example set for fans is just as important, thus making following the rules, being safe and practicing proper golf etiquette very important to learn and to practice.
Newbies to the game of golf should make it a point to learn golf etiquette quickly. Many newbies are taken under the wing of a more experienced golfer with some joining clubs, or hiring golf pros to give them individual lessons. Others learn golf at high school or college. All athletic competitions have rules, therefore, learning the basic rules will help you enjoy the game better.
So her are a few etiquette rules to follow.First, never swing your club until you're certain no one is in the way. Make sure everyone is a safe distance away. Golf clubs are swung with a great deal of force and can cause serious injury, so you don’t want to hurt anyone.
Next, never swing in the direction of another golfer or bystander because you could accidentally pick up some debris, sucha as a small rock or some other object that could hit someone and cause an injury. This is similar to the rule of never pointing a gun at someone, even if you think it's not loaded.
Always make sure the group ahead of you on the course is out of range before taking your swing. You don’t want to accidentally hit your ball into the middle of a group of people. It's embarrassing and could hurt someone.
Also, if you believe there is even a slight chance your ball could land near someone else, always warn him or her. The traditional way of doing this is by yelling “fore.”
Always keep your cart off the grass and pay attention to signs posted around the golf course. Follow the rules of the club, whether you're a member or a guest. This is simply practicing good sportsmanship. Remember, the rules are there for a reason. It could be there was a problem at the club in the past or someone anticipates a problem and is trying to avoid additional hassles. Besides, following the rules is simply showing respect.
Never throw your clubs. Many people get angry and toss their clubs which is the mark of a poor sportsman. It's childish and immature and in addition to the possibility of causing injury it simply makes the person look foolish. Belive me, no one wants to play golf with someone with a bad temper.
Of course, many of us have seen golf movies like Caddy Shack and Tin Cup. There are many scenes in these movies that are quite funny where characters violate some of these rules. Caddy Shack II, in fact, had Rodney Dangerfield acting as a very obnoxious guest at a golf club. While these actions are funny in the movies, in real like they aren't at all funny. In fact, the late Rodney Dangerfield had quite a reputation as a gentlemen and a sportsman and would never have acted that way in person.
