Golf Tournament Changes its Name

from: Maxx Golf Guides

On January 27th Tiger Woods upheld his reign in the Buick Invitational golf tournament winning it by two strokes and finishing15 under par. Going into the final round on Sunday, the field was highly contested with the leader board shared amongst seven players in the golf tournament. Tiger Woods was at the bottom of the leader board but was the obvious odds favorite due to his dominance over the Buick Invitational golf tournament and his PG ranking.

On Sunday, the leader board included a selection of third tier and rising golf stars. The brightest of those rising golf stars was Charles Howell III. His #2 ranking on the PGA Tour money list for 2007 and the most formidable opponent to pose a challenge proved to be not much of a challenge at all. With Tiger Woods seventh consecutive victory stretching over two seasons (end of 2006-present) and third consecutive Buick Invitational golf tournament at Torrey Pines.

The Buick Invitational is now unofficially called the Tiger Woods Invitational golf tournament featuring Buick. Considering Tiger Woods endorsement of the Buick, the unlikely sporty image in a new campaign seems to go hand in hand with the new golf tournament title. Buick commercials are now marketed to "get young" by appealing to the grandson generation while holding true to manufacturing a car that is as reliable as in the "old day". His (Tiger's) affinity to win the Buick Invitational golf tournament is turning into a deferred payment plan for his commercial royalties. Tiger Woods promotes Buick, proclaims to make the Buick car the “one he drives,” and wins every Buick Invitational golf tournament.

The unwritten consolation is for him to get handed the Buick Invitational golf tournament for the duration of his marketing contract with tournament entitled auto manufacturer. The other pro golfers at the top of the field are just pulling straws to decide who will play (in theory) on final round Sunday.

Going into the final round of the Tiger Woods Invitational golf tournament, 26 years old rookie, Brandt Snedeker, opened the tournament with a 61, and was tied for the lead with Andrew Buckle (another rookie) going into the final round. Tiger Woods finished with a (-15), and Howell finished (-13) with Snedeker rounding things out at the top three (-12) Tiger Woods PGA Tour streak dates back to last year's British Open. How long the streak will continue only the PGA Tournament God's have that answer. One thing that is certain is the Buick Invitational golf tournament is now unofficially titled the Tiger Woods Open.
